JACKSON HEIGHTS — In a bid to compensate for reduced 7 train weekend service, the MTA is adding extra trains during weekday evenings starting this fall, according to the MTA

The MTA will add two round trips between 8 and 10 p.m. on the weekdays, the agency said.

The additional rides were the result of an evaluation by NYC Transit to look for ways to add more trips while working on "critical maintenance work" on the 7 train that typically shuts down service for days, according to the MTA.

“We always want to better serve our customers by strengthening service whenever we have sustainable resources to do so, but we also must balance providing that service with the critical maintenance work we need to run trains safely,” MTA NYC Transit President Ronnie Hakim said in a statement.

The work was approved Monday at an MTA board vote and should begin this fall.

It's part of a $2.5 million service increase that also includes additional 2 train rides.
