Bike Through Space as IMAX's First Cycling Gym Opens in DUMBO

Ready to ride your bike into the stars?

IMAX is opening its first IMAXShift, a SoulCycle-like gym where bikers can work up a sweat as breathtaking vistas play on its massive trademark screens, in DUMBO next week, IMAX announced Monday.

The indoor cycling studio at at 127 Plymouth Street, which DNAinfo reported first applied for a permit to operate in DUMBO back in December, will offer “an immersive, thrilling and effective workout… powered by IMAX's cinema-grade projection and sound technology,” according to a press release. The gym opens on April 28.

The studio, located on the first floor of the DUMBO warehouse, can hold up to 50 riders at a time and will feature IMAX’s signature surround-sound speakers and a massive video screen.

Riders can channel E.T. with a ride through the solar system, go for a tropical vacation by soaring over the coasts of Hawaii or just pedal to the beat with kaleidoscopic visuals.

All sound and visuals will be original content created by IMAX and its partners.

The DUMBO gym is the first of its kind in the country, Robert Lister, the company's chief business development officer, has told DNAinfo.

IMAX says it is opening the initial test studio in DUMBO, and if the pilot is successful, it will expand the cycling gyms globally.

Rides at IMAXShift are now available at pre-sale pricing, with single rides starting at $31 and monthly memberships at $325. To buy rides, click here
