BRONX — Police uncovered a stockpile of guns, heroin and marijuana inside a Bronx man's bedroom on Tuesday, according to the NYPD.

Thomas Richardson, 61, was surprised by police at 5:45 a.m. on Tuesday, when they showed up at his apartment on Simpson Street with a search warrant, according to authorities.

Sgt. Timothy McLaughlin and Officer Anthony Kowalczyk of the 19th Precinct had been working on an active investigation and came across information that lead to the warrant at Richardson's home in the Longwood Residences, according to the NYPD.

Police would not reveal what investigation the officers were involved in before the arrest.

When they entered Richardson's bedroom, they found four plastic baggies with what looked like marijuana and nine glassine envelopes of what police say appeared to be heroin, according to a criminal complaint.

Police also found a black shopping bag in the alleyway directly below Richardson's bedroom window, which contained one .380 caliber Walther PPK pistol, loaded with seven rounds, and a .9mm caliber Hi-Point C9 pistol loaded with three rounds in its magazine and one round in the chamber, the complaint states.

The bag was also filled with 279 glassine envelopes with what police believe to be heroin.

The officers also found 20 pipes, four electronic cigarettes, brass knuckles and $3,820 in cash, according to authorities.

Richardson told police that the he had been holding the cache for four days and that the guns were "part of a deal," the complaint says.

"I'm a drug addict," he told police. "I tossed the drugs ... bad enough I got the guns."

Richardson does not have a gun or ammunitions permit, police said.

He was arrested and charged with four counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, including criminal possession of a narcotic drug with intent to sell, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, one count of criminal possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition, and unlawful possession of marijuana, police said.

During his arraignment on Wednesday night, the judge set Richardson's bail at $100,000 cash or bond. He is currently being held at Rikers Island, according to city records.

He is due back in court on Friday.

Richardson has a long rap sheet stemming back to 1983, with recent arrests in 2010 for trademark counterfeiting and a 2004 arrest for attempted criminal possession of a controlled substance.

His attorney did not immediately return a call for comment on Thursday.
