Apply for a $689 Apartment in Brownsville

BROWNSVILLE — A host of affordable apartments with on-site laundry, a fitness room and easy access to multiple train lines for less than $700 a month can be yours through a city housing lottery that's now taking applications.

The new development at 1740-1760 Prospect Place and 396 Saratoga Ave will include 86 affordable units close to the A, C, 2, 3, 4, 5 and L trains, the B7, B47, B45, B65 buses and LIRR according to NYC Housing Connect.

There are one, two and three bedroom units available for families of up to six people ranging from as low as $689 for a one bedroom to $1,181 for a three bedroom.

Rent and qualification to apply will depend on household income. The cheapest options are three one bedroom apartments for a person with an annual income of $24,995-$31,750 or two people with an annual income of $24,995-$36,250.

But the majority of the affordable units in the building are 63 two-bedroom apartments, which will go for $1,024 a month. To apply for these units, applicants must be families of between two and four people — with a maximum income of $43,500 for two people, $48,960 for three people and $54,360 for three people.

50 percent of the units in the building are reserved for current residents of Brooklyn Community Board 16. 25 percent are reserved for NYCHA affiliated applicants, meaning Former residents of Prospect Plaza, current eligible NYCHA public housing residents and current eligible NYCHA’s Section 8 Voucher Holders.

Applications are due by June 15, 2016.
