LONG ISLAND CITY — Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders energized hundreds of supporters in Queens Saturday, one of four campaign events in the city the Vermont senator had scheduled.

Supporters filled the auditorium at LaGuardia Community College about 4 p.m. to hear Sanders talk about his positions on everything from climate change to furthering access to healthcare.

The faithful lined up for blocks outside the school in the rain beforehand, many holding signs and decked out in campaign gear.

"He's been on the right side of history his whole career," said Jeff Krasner, a 35-year-old from Astoria who wore a baseball hat covered in campaign buttons.

He called Sanders "the only honest candidate," whom he values for his consistency.

"He's been saying and doing the same things for the last 40 years or so," he said.

Tania Mata, 70, from Bayside, said Sanders reminds her of her late father. She said she supports the senator because of his stance on Social Security.

"He wants to help us," she said.

The Queens event was one of several the Sanders' campaign planned in the city Saturday. He spoke to crowds in the Bronx and Manhattan earlier and was expected to meet with community leaders at the Apollo Theater in Harlem in the evening.

His Democratic rival Hillary Clinton attended an organizing event for Latino voters in Sunset Park Saturday evening.
