THE BRONX — A Bronx mother has been found guilty of manslaughter for the 2012 drowning of her infant daughter and 4-year-old son in their apartment, according to the Bronx District Attorney's Office.

Lisette Bamenga, 32, was accused of giving grape juice mixed with windshield wiper fluid to her son Trevor Noel and her 4-month-old daughter Violet Noel on July 5, 2012, after which she took them into the bathroom and drowned them in the tub, the DA's office said.

Bamenga also drank the wiper fluid herself and slashed her wrists, according to prosecutors.

She was convicted of two counts of first-degree manslaughter on Friday in a non-jury trial and is due to be sentenced on April 25, when she will face up to 50 years in prison, according to the Bronx DA's office.

"The killing of these young children is a horrendous tragedy," Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark said in a statement, "and their mother has been held accountable for her actions."

Bamenga's attorney could not immediately be reached for comment.
