Brooklyn Folk Festival

Where: St. Ann’s Church, 157 Montague St., Brooklyn Heights
When: Friday, Saturday and Sunday (See full schedule for times here)

Dozens of bands will take part in the three-day Brooklyn Folk Festival this weekend. Oldtime jam sessions, film screenings, instrument workshops and family sing-a-longs for all ages will also be featured. Or perhaps the Sunday afternoon banjo toss competition at Smith and 9th streets will peak your interest? Day passes and tickets are available here.

FRIDAY, APRIL 8

Gluten-Free Cooking Class For Sides & Sweets

Where: Court Street Collective, 371 Court St., Carroll Gardens
When: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Whether going gluten free was a New Year’s resolution or you jumped on that bandwagon ages ago, it’s time to put all that coconut flour in your cupboard to good use. Head over to the Court Tree Collective to learn how to make a gluten free selection of sides and sweets, including assorted thumbprint cookies and a spring vegetable quiche. The class is $45.

Threadbare Theatre Workshop Presents: an original stage adaptation of T.S. Eliot’s "The Waste Land"

Where: Word Bookstore, 126 Franklin St., Greenpoint
When: 7:30 p.m.

Enjoy an intimate, staged reading of T. S. Eliot's epic poem “The Waste Land.”  Snacks and wine will be served.

SATURDAY, APRIL 9

Brooklyn Bark N’ Brew

Where: Fort Greene Park, Central Lawn
When: 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Get an early morning dog walk in while enjoying free coffee and pastries from Brooklyn Bark at Fort Greene Park. Brooklyn Bark will be giving dog owners an overview of its services, which include dog walking, boarding and pet sitting. Mingle with other dog owners and members of the Fort Greene Park Conservancy. The group will meet at the park’s Central Lawn, by the entrance on South Portland Street and Dekalb Avenue.

One Day Public Plaza at Myrtle Wyckoff

Where: Wyckoff Avenue between Myrtle and Gates Avenues, Bushwick
When: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

As part of an attempt to rethink a series of dangerous and congested Bushwick intersections, the Department of Transportation will host a pop-up public plaza on Wyckoff Avenue with seating, programming and staff on hand to answer your questions about what a public plaza there might entail.

Rooftop Container Gardening Workshop

Where: Brooklyn Botanic Garden, 990 Washington Ave., Crown Heights
When: 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Learn how to properly garden on your roof with experts from the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, who will show gardeners about irrigation, soil, design and building materials for a rooftop garden. The workshop costs $90 for non-members and pre-registration is required.

Brooklyn Baby & Family Expo

Where: Industry City, 233 37th St., Sunset Park
When: 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Looking for the latest stroller technology? Need a camp for your kid this summer? Or want a little family-friendly entertainment to occupy your toddler for the day? A Child Grows in Brooklyn is hosting its baby-centric expo this Saturday with baby gear, parenting experts, a sleep doctor and performances by Mil’s Trills and Andrew Singalong. Tickets are $15 and are available here.

Diaspora Art Mart: Spring Awakenings

Where: Restoration Plaza, 1368 Fulton St., Bed-Stuy
When: 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Revamp your spring style at the Diaspora Art Mart, where vendors will showcase original clothing, crochet art, handmade jewelry, bath and body products, and more. A DJ will spin tunes and “edutainment” begins at 3:30 p.m., followed by a fashion show at 4:30 p.m. Admission is free.

ANKH WEDJA SENEB: A Screening + Dialogue with Tabita Rezaire

Where: MoCADA, 80 Hanson Place, Fort Greene
When: 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Explore themes of race, patriarchy, health and technology at the New York premiere screening of three new films by new media artist Tabita Rezaire. A discussion between Rezaire and New York Times technology reporter Jenna Wortham will follow the screening. Admission is free with museum admission.

Andre’s Drink ‘N Draw

Where: Wayne Clarke’s Place, 360 Marcus Garvey Blvd., Bed-Stuy
When: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Paint and sip some wine at Andre’s Drink ‘N Draw night. The guided acrylic art lesson costs $45, and drinks, snacks, and supplies will be provided. Tickets must be purchased in advance.

A Love Letter to BAX

Where: Kumble Theater, LIU Brooklyn, 1 University Plaza, Fort Greene
When: 6 p.m. opening party, 7:30 p.m. performancesCelebrate the 25th anniversary of Brooklyn Arts

Exchange at this combination party and dance performance. All proceeds from ticket sales go toward raising money for BAX’s new scholarship fund for young artists.

Benefit for Victims of Dekalb Fire

Where: The Silent Barn, 603 Bushwick Ave.
When: 8 p.m

Come out and support your Bushwick neighbors who lost their homes last week with a benefit concert at the Silent Barn this Saturday, featuring a handful of local musicians, poets, artists and performers.

SUNDAY, APRIL 10

Kids Bike Forum

Where: Brooklyn Transition Center, 185 Ellery St., Bed-Stuy
When: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Learn some bike safety for your kids at this free event with art and bike-related activities, skills clinics with riding basics, and more. Pre-registration online is required for classes, and children must bring their bike and helmet for the clinic.

Embroidering Love Notes – A Workshop with Artist Iviva Olenick

Where: Old Stone House, 336 Third St., Park Slope
When: 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

No previous sewing experience is necessary at this workshop with artist Iviva Olenick where you'll drink prosecco and listen to chamber music while learning how to "translate words and thoughts into backstitch and French knots," according to the Old Stone House website. The $35 ticket includes supplies, drinks and snacks. This workshop is part of the Old Stone House’s “Partners, Parents, Pets: Contemporary Portraiture” exhibit, which explores “the nuances of relationships through diverse artistic approaches.”

Silent Film with Live Piano Accompaniment at the Library

Where: Brooklyn Public Library Central Branch, 10 Grand Army Plaza, Prospect Heights
When: 12:30 p.m.

See a 1927 silent film classic starring Mary Pickford, “My Best Girl,” with live piano accompaniment. The event is free and open to the public; children under 6 years old will not be admitted.

Second Sundays

Where: Pioneer Works, 159 Pioneer St., Red Hook
When: 4 p.m.

Pioneer Works is back with its Second Sundays series, which takes place every month and features open studios, live performances and showcases artists in residence. There is a $10 suggested donation for the event.

GOOD DIRT: Benefiting the National Young Farmers Coalition

Where: Brooklyn Academy of Music Fisher Building, 321 Ashland Pl., Fort Greene
When: 4 p.m.

Join the Young Farmers Coalition for a live multimedia performance based on the real stories of six diverse farm families in the Hudson Valley at the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Fisher theater. The performance, written by Jeremy Davidson and directed by Mary Stuart Masterson of Storyhorse Documentary Theater, will explore the fragility of the country’s agricultural heritage and encourage the audience to rebuild what’s been lost. Enjoy local food, wine, beer and cider at a 6 p.m. afterparty at BAM’s Lepercq Space. Tickets start at $250 and proceeds benefit the Young Farmers Coalition, a 501c3 nonprofit alliance of young farmers, ranchers and consumers in support of American agriculture.
