All Weekend

► Sidney Poitier Retrospective

Where: Museum of the Moving Image, 36-01 35th Ave., Astoria
When: Various screenings 

Starting Saturday and running through April 17, the museum will screen nine films starring iconic actor Sidney Poitier. This weekend’s screenings include the 1950 film “No Way Out,” and the 1972 western “Buck and the Preacher.” Tickets to each show are $12. 

Friday, April 8

"Voices Beyond Bondage" Poetry Slam

Where: Lewis Latimer House Museum, 34-41 137th St., Flushing
When: 6:30 p.m.

Poets Erika DeSimone and Fidel Lewis will present "Voices Beyond Bondage: An Anthology of Verse by African Americans of the 19th Century" with a question and answer and book signing after the poetry slam.  

► "Origami in Action” Opening

Where: ResoBox, 41-26 27th St., Long Island City
When: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Celebrate the opening of Japanese cultural center Resobox’s newest exhibit, featuring the origami designs of three artists. The event is free. 

Saturday, April 9

Flatfooting Workshop and Performance 

Where: Flushing Town Hall, 137-35 Northern Blvd., Flushing
When: 7 p.m. workshop, 8 p.m. performance

Celebrate Southwest Virginia's heritage with stringband music, dance and mountain ballads from Crooked Road. The performance starts at 8 p.m. but get there at 7 p.m. for a workshop on "flatfooting," or dancing. There will be performances from Whitetop Mountain Band, Julie Shepherd-Powell and Sandy Shortridge. Tickets are $16, $10 for members and students.

Sunday, April 10

Hey, Ho! Let's Go!: Ramones and the Birth of Punk

Where: Queens Museum, Flushing Meadows-Corona Park
When: 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

This exhibit looks at the Ramones' influence on punk with hundreds of items of memorabilia, including many rarely-seen photos, posters, t-shirts and band-worn clothing. The exhibit is part of the Queens Museum's new spring slate of shows and kicks off with an opening reception featuring live music. 

► The New World of the Number 7 Train Walking Tour

Where: Various places throughout Queens
When: 10 am to 5:30 p.m.

Take a walk with the borough's official historian, Jack Eichenbaum, and look at how the 7 train has impacted the neighborhoods that surround it since 1914. The walk includes stops in Long Island City, Flushing, Corona and Woodside. More information is at Eichenbaum's website. Tickets are $45.

► Cheap Trick Concert

Where: Melrose Ballroom, 36-08 33rd St., Astoria
When: 7:30 p.m.

Longtime rock and rollers Cheap Trick — the band behind hits like “I Want You to Want Me” and “Surrender” — will perform at event venue Melrose Ballroom. Tickets range from $65 to $150.
