Just two years after Mayor Bill de Blasio's legendary Staten Island pizza faux pas where he used a knife and fork to eat a slice, Gov. John Kasich nearly made the same mistake at a campaign stop in Howard Beach, Queens.

The Republican presidential hopeful spoke to voters before chowing down on a slice from Gino's Pizzeria & Restaurant at 158-46 Cross Bay Blvd. at 159th Avenue. Kasich started the meal by picking up a knife and fork, harkening back to de Blasio's visit to Goodfella's Pizzeria on Staten Island in January 2014.

But rather than double down on his pizza-related blunder, Kasich made the choice endorsed by serious New York pizza aficionados and picked up his slice.

Kasich will also appear in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania on Friday.
