6 Firefighters Hurt in East Elmhurst Fire, FDNY Says

QUEENS — Six firefighters were hurt when a large fire tore through an East Elmhurst home and scorched nearby buildings Tuesday morning, FDNY officials said.

Flames erupted at 23-41 91st St., near 23rd Avenue, about 2:10 a.m. before quickly spreading to a house next door and backyard garage, an FDNY spokesman said.

Two firefighters were treated at New York Hospital Queens and two at Elmhurst Hospital, all for minor injuries, officials said.

Two other firefighters refused medical attention at the scene, officials said.

The fire was brought under control about 3:41 a.m., officials said.

Fire marshals will determine what sparked the flames, officials said.
