UPPER WEST SIDE — A teenager was slashed by a group of four men who tried to rob him near the 96th Street subway station, police said.
The 19-year-old victim was walking alone near the northeast corner of 96th Street and Broadway around midnight Saturday when the four suspects approached, leading him to head for the subway entrance because he had a bad feeling about them, the NYPD said.
Just outside the station, the suspects rummaged through his pockets but didn't find anything, so they pulled out a knife and slashed him on both hands and the lower back before fleeing empty-handed, according to 24th Precinct Deputy Inspector Marlon Larin.
He was taken to St. Luke's Hospital and released later that night, Larin said.
The victim, who is from East Harlem, said he did not know the men, the deputy inspector noted.
Police do not provide a description of the four suspects.
