Corona Park Bathroom Upgrades and Library Tech Boost Vie for $1M in Funds

CORONA — Up to $1 million for projects across the district is up for grabs in participatory budgeting, which begins next week.

City Councilwoman Julissa Ferreras-Copeland has set aside the funds for projects that include a bathroom upgrade at Josephine Caminiti Playground and new computers at the LeFrak City library.

The projects were selected at earlier PB meetings throughout the district.

Voting begins March 26 and continues through April 3. Residents can vote at locations throughout the district, including the East Elmhurst, Corona and Langston Hughes libraries; three Elmcor centers; and Corona IPRHE.

The following projects are on the table: 

► Bathroom upgrade at Josephine Caminiti Playground, estimated at $500,000

► Newly paved walkways at Josephine Caminiti playground, estimated at $300,000

► Park of the American bathroom improvements, estimated at $500,000

► Improved lighting at East Elmhurst playground, estimated at $200,000

► Bathroom improvements at East Elmhurst playground, estimated at $500,000

► New pathways at Park of the Americas, estimated at$300,000

► Technology upgrade at the Corona library, estimated at $35,000

► New computers and tablets at the LeFrak City Library, estimated at $35,000

► Smartboards for P.S. 14, estimated at $80,000

► New laptops for P.S. 16, estimated at $80,000
