UNION SQUARE — Here be dragons.
The North Plaza of Union Square will be transformed into a dragon-scorched wasteland on Tuesday morning, part of a promotional event celebrating the release on DVD of the fifth season of the hit show Game of Thrones.
The event, first reported by DNAinfo, will kick off at 8 a.m. in Union Square, with the appearance of a dragon landing in the park’s north plaza, according to an HBO spokeswoman. The “crash site” will include crushed benches, dug-up concrete, dragon footprints, skid marks, smoke, and more, according to a press release from the network.
On Tuesday evening there will be a 7:30 p.m. screening in Herald Square of “Dance of Dragons,” a 20-minute, 3D animated short feature released on the Season Five DVD, which will include a projection of a dragon soaring into the sky, a spokeswoman said.
The Herald Square screening will include a visit from a secret special guest, according to a statement.
The fan events come about a month before the beginning of the show’s much-anticipated sixth season, which airs on April 28.
