STATEN ISLAND — Dozens of roads in Staten Island will be repaved as part of a $242 million push to fix the borough's crumbling streets.

Borough President James Oddo and Councilman Steven Matteo announced Wednesday that 205 miles of road will be resurfaced using city funds.

Of those, 105 miles of work on main roads will be done overnight, up from about 25 miles in previous years, Oddo said.

"The upcoming year will see a great deal of resurfacing work taking place across broad swaths of Staten Island, including many main thoroughfares," Oddo said in a statement.

"Focusing resources on addressing as many main roads during overnight hours as possible, while getting to secondary and tertiary roads during the day, is the right strategy that will have a positive effect on road conditions and it is the model I want to see extended."

"I am happy this overnight paving plan will address Hylan Blvd. between Robinson Avenue and Richmond Avenue, a stretch of road that desperately needs it."

Last year, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the increased funding in the budget that will allow the city to fix 2,500 miles of streets by the end of 2017.

The funds helped the city to start pothole repair season early in the Mid Island last month, Matteo said.
