"City of Gold"

Where: IFC Center, 323 6th Ave., Greenwich Village
When: Multiple screenings daily, Friday through Thursday

“City of Gold” trails Pulitzer Prize-winning food writer Jonathan Gold as he drives around Los Angeles in his green pickup truck. In following Gold, the documentary highlights the city’s immigrant stories and multicultural culinary offerings, from Oaxacan grasshopper soup to elaborate Asian fare.

16th Annual Robotics Competition and Expo

Where: Jacob Javits Convention Center, 655 W. 34th St., Hell's Kitchen
When: Friday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Robotics and technology enthusiasts are invited to a free, three-day event that “brings a series of high-stakes, high-intensity robotic competitions under one roof, mixed with exciting expos and college and career fairs.” Elementary through high school students will be showcasing their robotic creations over the course of three days in a “sports-style tournament” and various challenges, with the winners advancing to a world championship in St. Louis.

"Warhol by the Books"

Where: Morgan Library & Museum, 225 Madison Ave. between East 36th and East 37th streets, Midtown
When: Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

This retrospective zeroes in on Andy Warhol’s work in book arts, which dates back to his days as an art student and carried on for the rest of his career.

Friday, March 11

Genesis Breyer P-Orridge: "Try To Altar Everything"

Where: Rubin Museum of Art, 150 W. 17th St., Chelsea
When: Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Artist Genesis Breyer P-Orridge’s latest exhibit includes paintings, sculptures and installations “explore the ways that Hindu mythology and Nepal’s Kathmandu Valley have influenced the artist and h/er work.” Patrons are invited to bring a personal offering to the exhibit that will be “arranged and rearranged throughout the gallery” by the artist h/erself.

Experimental Jazz Party at Symphony Space

Where: Symphony Space, 2537 Broadway between West 95th and West 96th streets, Upper West Side
When: 8 p.m.

Bassist and vocalist Mimi Jones will host “The Lab Sessions,” an experimental jazz party that brings together various performers and blends genres for a lively evening.

Saturday, March 12

Fearsome Warriors & Evil Kings Shakespeare Workshop

Where: Dyckman Farmhouse, 4881 Broadway at West 204th Street, Inwood
When: 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.

Join the Dyckman Farmhouse for a teen workshop like no other with real stage-combat training and method acting from the Frog & Peach Theatre’s skilled teaching artists. Ecology and Urbanity: The Past, Present and Future of Manhattan Island

Where: Morris-Jumel Terrace, 65 Jumel Terrace, between 160th and 162nd Streets, Washington Heights
When: 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Join the director of the Mannahatta2409/Visionmaker NYC project, and senior conversation ecologist for the Wildlife Conversation Society, Eric Sanderson for a presentation on the historic ecology of Manhattan island. Sanderson will also discuss the current and future of urban planning in Northern Manhattan, and what resident can do to support it. Admissions is $20, $15 for members and $10 for students. An Evening of Quirky Cabaret with former "SNL" Cast Member Ana Gasteyer

Where: Schimmel Center, 5 Spruce St. in Civic Center
When: 7:30 p.m.

The funny lady with a powerful voice adds humor and wit to a night of cabaret. Tickets are $29 to $55

Sunday, March 13

Annual St. Patrick’s Day Open Day

Where: Irish Arts Center, 553 W. 51st St., Hell's Kitchen
When: Sunday, March 15 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The Irish Arts Center in Hell’s Kitchen is kicking off St. Patrick’s Day early with an afternoon of cultural and artistic events for all ages. Guests will be able to brush up on their Gaelic by speaking with the center’s instructors. They can also play football with the Manhattan Gaels, enjoy some Barry’s tea, learn how to play the tin whistle and more. Admission is free.
