HELL’S KITCHEN — Portions of two major avenues in Hell’s Kitchen may be temporarily closed as the city carries out water main replacements and sewer work.

Beginning Monday, March 7, the city will start work on West 43rd Street between 10th and 12th avenues, as well as on 10th and 11th avenues between West 43rd and 44th streets.

Pedestrians will still be able to travel through those areas during the work. But portions of those areas will be closed to vehicles and parking may be restricted between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and on some nights and weekends "as needed," the city’s Department of Design and Construction said.

“Advanced notification will be given if construction deviates from these scheduled hours,” the agency added.

The planned work may also include installing fire hydrants and replacing existing sewers, and could result in dust and noise in the area, the DDC said.

The city will provide a 72-hour notice throughout the area with information about any possible water service interruptions, the agency noted.

The DDC did not say how long the work is expected to last. A spokeswoman for the project did not respond to requests for comment Thursday.
