CROWN HEIGHTS — New leadership is coming to the 71st Precinct, the police department announced Tuesday.

The commanding officer of the precinct, George Fitzgibbon, is moving on to lead the Brooklyn South narcotics division, police said.

Taking his place is Deputy Inspector Norman Grandstaff, currently the commanding officer of Brooklyn’s 69th Precinct in Canarsie.

This is the second time Grandstaff has followed Fitzgibbon’s lead in a Brooklyn precinct. Fitzgibbon had run the Canarsie precinct for two years when Grandstaff took over that command in late 2013, according to the Canarsie Courier.

Fitzgibbon came to the 71st Precinct, which covers southern Crown Heights, Prospect-Lefferts Gardens and East Flatbush, two years ago as a deputy inspector. He was promoted to inspector in August.

His new assignment at the narcotics squad begins Tuesday, sources said.
