One sign we're inching away from the drudgeries of winter? Summer concert series are beginning to be announced.
On Tuesday, event organizer BRIC revealed that Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings will kick off the 38th year of the festival, renamed as the BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival "as part an effort by BRIC to make consistent the naming of its programs," a press release from the organization said.
On June 8th, the Bed-Stuy-born soul singer will grace the Prospect Park Bandshell stage with her presence in a free performance.
Other free shows that make up the 25-30 performance festival will be unveiled in the spring, according to a press release, though benefit performances by Tame Impala (June 14 and 15), Ray LaMontagne (June 22) and Beirut (August 2) have already been announced and tickets are on sale.
Celebrate Brooklyn! joins other summer music festivals in the city that have recently announced their lineups, including Governors Ball (June 3-5), Electric Daisy (May 14-15) and Central Park SummerStage (first show on March 20).
