EAST HARLEM — An 82-year-old woman was conned out of $4,000 by people who told her she had won a quarter million-dollar sweepstakes.

The woman, who lives on Fifth Avenue near 137th street, received a letter in the mail on Feb. 9 telling her to send cash to a Houston address, according to the NYPD.

She sent them $4,000 for “processing and delivery” fees but never heard back from them, police said.

Similar scams involve people calling seniors and claiming to be from the IRS, people dressed up as police officers and demanding thousands to bail grandchildren out of jail, and people claiming they won the lottery but needing help cashing the winning ticket.
