PRINCE'S BAY — A man claiming to be a detective called a 90-year-old Staten Island woman and convinced her to give him $20,000 to use as bail money for her granddaughter who wasn't in prison, prosecutors said.

Emmanuel Jean-Gilles, 31, of Bay Ridge, first called the woman on July 24 and told her he was "Detective Shaffer" and that her granddaughter needed bail money, prosecutors said.

Between July 24 and July 29, Jean-Gilles withdrew $20,000 from the woman's account at a Prince's Bay bank, prosecutors said.

Jean-Gilles was arrested on Oct. 20 and charged with grand larceny, criminal impersonation and petit larceny, the Staten Island District Attorney's office said.

His bail was set at $5,000 and he's due back in court on Monday, according to online court records.

Jean-Gilles' lawyer did not want to comment for this story.
