JACKSON HEIGHTS — Three men robbed and beat a man and told him he was "worthless" because he was gay in an early morning attack on Wednesday, in what police are investigating as a possible bias crime.
The victim was walking near 81st Street and Roosevelt Avenue at around 2 a.m. on Wednesday when three men attacked him, police said.
While kicking and punching the victim, one man said, "You're a worthless piece of trash because you're gay," police said.
The men took the victim's wallet, which include $60 and a debit card, and fled, leaving him unconscious on the street, police said.
He eventually woke up and walked to Elmhurst Hospital, police said.
In November, a man was followed from a restaurant on 83rd Street and Roosevelt Avenue by a group of men who beat and robbed him.
They shouted anti-gay statements while beating and sexually assaulting him, police said. They also robbed him.
It was not immediately clear if the incidents were believed to be connected.
