JACKSON HEIGHTS — The stretch of 37th Road between 73rd and 74th streets will officially be known as "Diversity Plaza" after the City Council approved its renaming.
The co-naming was approved along with dozens of other streets honoring people, places and events in New York City — including "Anthony Mason Way" for the former New York Knick and "Det. Randolph Holder Way" in memory of the slain NYPD officer.
Diversity Plaza first opened in 2011 and has since hosted community board meetings, vigils and celebrations.
City Councilman Danny Dromm sponsored the renaming and has allocated funds to renovate it and transform it into a more permanent space to meet.
Work is set to begin this spring on its major overhaul, city officials said.
