CROWN HEIGHTS — Police arrested a driver and are looking for another after they hit pedestrians and fled in separate incidents in Crown Heights this week.
The first crash happened on Rogers Avenue and Carroll Street in Crown Heights on Feb. 3 when a 63-year-old woman was crossing the avenue with the light around 4:30 p.m., police said.
As she was walking across, a driver made an illegal left turn and ran over her feet, she told police. The man stopped the car and checked on the woman, who demanded to see his driver’s license. He handed it over.
When officers arrived on the scene of the crash, the driver fled from the intersection on foot, police said.
The man had not been arrested as of Thursday evening but police have identified him from the license obtained by the 63-year-old victim.
The second incident happened at the corner of Lincoln Road and Nostrand Avenue in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens on Feb. 7., according to police.
A man driving a 2009 Hyundai SUV hit a 31-year-old woman and 29-year-old man as they crossed the intersection with the signal around 11 p.m.
The victims told police the driver stopped briefly but then drove away. The woman suffered injuries to her jaw, hip, knee, head and leg and had a chipped tooth. The male victim suffered pain and swelling on his ankle. Both were treated at a local hospital.
Police caught up with the driver a short time later and administered a blood alcohol test. He registered a 0.021 BAC, below the .08 legal limit for impaired driving in New York State.
He was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of the accident, police said.
The above incidents are part of DNAinfo’s weekly crime blotter compiled from reports to the 71st Precinct in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens, Crown Heights and East Flatbush.
