GRAMERCY — Date night went flat for a drunk man who was caught pouring a glass of his own home brew for a lady friend — while driving in his car along East 23rd Street, police said.

The 39-year-old man was driving east on East 23rd Street at about 1 a.m. on Feb. 2 with a date when he decided to show off his homebrewed beer, according to a police report.

Unfortunately for the amateur brewer, he aroused the suspicion of a passing officer who noticed him pouring the suds into a stemmed glass, and pulled him over at the intersection of Third Avenue, police said.

He admitted he had already drank four beers before getting behind the wheel and was on his way to another bar, according to a report.

The man added that he was trying to impress his date by allowing her to sample his homemade beer, police said.

Police from the 13th Precinct administered a breathalyzer test twice at the scene and the man first blew an .083, which is over the legal limit of .08 blood alcohol content. The next test showed a .074 BAC, according to police. A third test, administered after police took him into custody at the 7th Precinct in Lower Manhattan, showed a BAC level of .079, police said.

Prosecutors charged the man with driving under the influence, his first such offense, and a judge ordered him held on $500 bail, which he managed to pay six days later on Feb. 8, court records show. He is due back in court on March 14.

His lawyer did not respond to a request for comment.
