NEW YORK CITY — A two-day travel advisory has been issued as two winter storms threaten to pummel the city from Monday through Wednesday.

The National Weather Service forecasts 2 to 4 inches of snow to fall by Monday afternoon. The city will also see winds of 15-20 mph Monday with gusts of up to 30 mph, the National Weather Service said.

Light snow is also expected to fall Monday night to Wednesday.

Alternate side parking rules were already suspended Monday in recognition of Asian Lunar New Year.

During the travel advisory, Mayor Bill de Blasio urged drivers to stick to major streets and to use caution. He also asked New Yorkers to check on their neighbors.

City residents could also expect delays in trash and recycling collection, according to the Department of Sanitation, as the agency uses vehicles to deploy salt.

Sanitation workers are also set to collect trash and recycling on Lincoln's Birthday this Friday.

The NWS predicts temperatures to stay above freezing during the day Monday and Tuesday, but to drop below freezing each night.

The city issues a Code Blue Weather Emergency notice when temperatures are below 32 degrees, guaranteeing space in New York’s shelter system to anyone who needs it. Residents can call 311 to report a homeless individual or family in need of assistance.
