Straphanger Punches Transit Officers at Roosevelt Ave Station, Police Say

By Katie Honan | February 4, 2016 3:34pm

JACKSON HEIGHTS — A man was arrested after going ballistic at the Roosevelt Avenue subway station, punching and spitting on transit police officers, according to the NYPD.

Two transit officers saw Hector Reyes, 21, yelling and hitting a subway station agent booth at the Roosevelt Avenue-74th Street station at around 5 p.m. on Jan. 29, police said.

He then approached the table where the officers were standing, hitting it repeatedly while yelling, "F--k you, I know this f---ing game," according to the criminal complaint.

They asked him to leave, but he refused, they said.

When they tried to remove Reyes from the subway station he flailed his arms and punched one officer in the head and pushed another to the ground, the complaint says.

As they tried to handcuff him he again flailed his arms to avoid arrest, spitting at the two transit officers and other police officers who came to assist them, police say.

Two officers were treated by EMS for back and head pain from the attack, and another hurt his hand although refused treatment, the DA said.

Reyes was charged with assault, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct and is due back in court in March, according to court officers.

His lawyer, Kevin Michaels, declined to comment.
