PROSPECT HEIGHTS — If you have questions about affordable housing in the neighborhood, this weekend is the time to get them answered.

A slate of housing experts will be available at a public forum Saturday addressing affordability in Prospect Heights, hosted by a concerned parent group, the P.S. 9 PTO, State Senator Jesse Hamilton and the Prospect Heights Neighborhood Development Council to combat “the reality of higher rent and real estate prices” in the area, organizers said.

“Amid rising rents and a rapidly changing neighborhood, tenants need to know what they can do when harassed by landlords and how interested parties can prepare for lotteries through which affordable apartments [are] leased,” the group said in an event announcement.

Speakers at the forum will include staff from IMPACCT Brooklyn (formerly known as the Pratt Area Community Council), the Fifth Avenue Committee and Mutual Housing Association of New York, the group facilitating upcoming affordable housing opportunities within the Atlantic Yards/Pacific Park complex.

The 22-acre development is set to include a total of 2,250 units of affordable housing by 2025, including 298 units that will come online this year at 535 Carlton Ave., developers said.

The forum speakers will “pay specific attention” to housing currently available in Prospect Heights through the city's "Housing Connect" system and how that can work for “households of diverse economic means,” the event announcement from the PTO said.

“The P.S. 9 PTO is committed to diversity in all its forms, including but not limited to race, culture, socio-economic level and family diversity,” it read.

The affordable housing forum will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6 at the auditorium at P.S. 9, located at 80 Underhill Ave.
