'El Bloombito' Twitter Feed Mocking Former Mayor Revived Amid Rumored Run

By Carolina Pichardo | January 28, 2016 10:18am

"El Bloombito" es backo!

Just when you thought the presidential race couldn't fit any more characters, the parody Twitter account mocking former Mayor Michael Bloomberg's Spanish-language skills announced its return, amid reports he could spend a billion dollars of his own money to run.

Inwood resident Rachel Figueroa, who launched the account in 2011 during Hurricane Irene, said she revived it with a tweet on Sat, Jan. 23, after reading about Bloomberg's possible candidacy.

Although she'd sporadically Tweeted from the account before, it wasn't as frequent as when Bloomberg was in office, she said.

"I've been doing a few tweets each day for the past couple of days" she said with a laugh. "I'm not dropping what I'm doing."

Figueroa, who works as a freelance editor, writer and deputy district leader for the Humane Society, said she's still Tweeting "the same silly things as before," but having fun seeing how excited the Twitterverse has been with El Bloombito's return.

Figueroa said she's taking it day by day, whether Bloomberg decides to run or not.

"Right now, the front runners are Trump and a Canadian," she said, "so anything goes at this point!"

If Bloomberg does run, however, Figueroa said she has some advice for the former three-term mayor:  "In the event of a disaster, I just really hope he goes with a translator."
