EAST HARLEM — A gunman threatened to shoot the employee of a Kennedy Fried Chicken on Third Avenue during an attempted robbery, police said.

"Give me your money, save your life," the suspect, who pointed a black handgun, told the 22-year-old victim, according to the NYPD.

The attempted robbery happened at 3:20 a.m. on Jan. 20 while the employee was cleaning up before closing the takeout restaurant.

The employee did not have the keys to open the register so the gunman forced him into a bathroom, police said.

Once inside, the employee locked himself inside and waited for the gunman to leave. The suspect took the employee's phone — which he had left on top of a freezer — and left the store.

No arrests have been made. The restaurant was closed Monday morning.

The attempted armed robbery happened less than three weeks after another gunman stormed into the takeout place at 3:20 a.m. and opened fire at a group of men ordering food. One of them was shot in the leg and was taken to Harlem Hospital.
