Monday, Jan. 25

►  “In a Different Key: The Story of Autism”

Where: Barnes & Noble, E. 86th Street and Lexington Ave., Upper East Side
When: 7 p.m.

Journalists Caren Zucker and John Donovan tell the story of a man with autism, who is now 77 and living in Mississippi. They'll cover a wide range of treatments and the change in the public’s attitude about it.

Secret Science Club Presents Cognitive Psychologist and Marine Mammal Researcher Donna Reiss

Where: The Bell House, 149 Seventh St., Gowanus
When:  Doors at 7:30 p.m., 8 p.m.

Learn about the inner lives of dolphins at this free lecture during which guests will sip themed cocktails and listen to whale songs.

Tuesday, Jan. 26

Franklin Park Reading Series Comes to Manhattanville

Where: 167 Rogers Ave., Crown Heights
When: 7:30 to 9:00 p.m.

The popular Franklin Park Reading Series is kicking off a new monthly event at Crown Heights coffee shop Manhattanville Coffee on Rogers Avenue this Tuesday. The inaugural event features writers Will Chancellor, Madeline Stevens, Yahdon Israel and Jesse Kohn. The event is free and open to the public.

Arts & Minds Workshop

Where: Studio Museum in Harlem, 144 W. 125th St., Central Harlem 
When: 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The Studio Museum in Harlem is hosting an art workshop for adults with memory disorders and their caregivers. The program involves a guided tour of current exhibitions and hands-on art activities. The workshop is free but reservations are required.

Free Knitting Class

Where: Slip Stitch Needlecraft, 437 Nostrand Ave., Bed-Stuy
When: 6 p.m.

Get the basics of knitting in this free class at Bed-Stuy’s newest crochet and knitting store. The first of a two-part series teaches you how to knit a gauge swatch for knitting in the round, how to increase and decrease, and cast-on — perfect for making your own scarf for the cold weather.

A Reading of “Fake Missed Connections”

Where: BookCourt, 163 Court St., Cobble Hill
When: 7 p.m.

Author Brett Fletcher Lauer will read from his book “Fake Missed Connections,” a nonfiction book about phony missed connections that Lauer posted on Craiglist, and the responses he receives. The event will include an audience Q&A session as well as book signings.

Buster Keaton’s “The General” with Pianist Matan Porat

Where: 92 Y, Lexington Avenue and 92nd Street, Upper East Side
When: 7:30 p.m.

Relive the 1920s while watching Buster Keaton’s “The General,” about a Southern engineer and his train during the Civil War, with accompaniment by Israeli composer and pianist Matan Porat.

Celebrate Australia Day

Where: Burke & Wills, 226 W. 79th St., Upper West Side 
When: 5:30 p.m.

Celebrate Australia Day at Burke & Wills, the Upper West Side’s own Australian bistro, with a prix-fixe menu that features national dishes like kangaroo loin, paired with Australian wines.

Lunch and Learn Series: The Woman Who Dueled With Aaron Burr and Won

Where: The Museum of American Finance, 48 Wall St., Financial District

Learn the fascinating life story of Eliza Jumel, a woman who was born into poverty in 1770s in Rhode Island, but died one of the wealthiest women in New York — after a scandalous divorce from Aaron Burr. Event is free.

Movie Matinee: "Trainwreck"

Catch Amy Schumer and Bill Hader going off the rails in this wacky rom-com.

Astoria Creative Meetup

Where: Q.E.D Astoria, 27-16 23rd Ave., Astoria
When: 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

“How I Learned” Seventh Anniversary Show

Where: Union Hall, 702 Union St., Park Slope
When: Doors at 7:30 p.m., show at 8 p.m.

The storytelling series “How I Learned” features folks on stage, telling audience members stories on a particular theme. For the seventh anniversary show, writers and other professional raconteurs including Lauren Maul, Doogie Horner, Josh Homer and others will explain how they learned to “get lucky".

Thursday, Jan. 28

New York Wild Film Festival Opening

Where: The Explorers Club, 46 E. 70th St., Upper East Side
When: 6 p.m.

The Wild Film Festival highlights films about exploration, adventure, wildlife and the environment. This year, Jonathan Demme, who directed “The Silence of the Lambs” will receive an award for his documentary “What’s Motivating Hayes,” about a biologist, Tyrone Hayes, who transforms into an investigator. The opening will feature films “Soul of the Elephant,” “Warlords of Ivory” and a Q&A with producers and writers.

About Women: Conversations Between a Writer and a Painter

Where: La Maison Française, New York University, 16 Washington Mews, Greenwich Village
When: 7 p.m.

Co-authors Lisa Alther and Françoise Gilot have been friends for more than 25 years. They found that, despite their different backgrounds (Gilot grew up in Paris, Alther in small-town Tenneesee), being women who supported themselves with their art left them with a lot in common. This event, with the same title as their recently-released book, will feature a discussion between the pair (in English) on their experiences, from their childhoods to balancing the obligations of work and parenthood, what it means to be a woman, and their views on creativity, the importance of art, self-invention, and feminism.

State of Forest Hills Civic Community - Looking Forward to 2016

Where: The West Side Tennis Club, 1 Tennis Pl., Forest Hills
When: 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

If you live in Forest Hills and want to know more about your neighborhood, visit the West Side Tennis Club to celebrate the New Year and learn about various community organizations, their plans for 2016, and how to get involved. All are welcome to meet and mingle. This will also be an opportunity to find out more about The West Side Tennis Club, the former site of the U.S. Open. Admission is free.

Intra Phenom

Where: Signal, 260 Johnson Ave., East Williamsburg 
When: 8 p.m.

The gallery Signal hosts a performance series that highlights women poets, dancers, artists and musicians. This Thursday’s performance will feature artist and poet Diamond Stingily and alto sax and flute player Eve Essex among others.     

Draw Bingo!

Where: Indian Road Cafe, 600 W. 218th St., Inwood 
When: 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. 

Join Goldie Lox & Ona Louise for the first Bingo Night at Indian Road Café. The duo host the event on the last Thursday of every month. They promise a lot of ball-pulling fun, with the proceeds going out to local charities.

Labapalooza! Festival

Where: St. Ann’s Warehouse, 45 Water St., DUMBO
When: 8 p.m.

Labapalooza! Festival kicks off Thursday at St. Ann’s Puppet Lab, showcasing new forms of experimental puppetry. Puppet shows on this year’s program will explore the lifelong friendship of artists Marcel Duchamp and Man Ray, take the audience for a ride on a blimp-like dirigible and follow a dumble dot on a journey for independence. The show runs through Jan. 31. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door.
