CRIME BLOTTER: Thief Stuffs Pill Bottles in Coat Sleeves, Police Say

BOERUM HILL — A man was caught stuffing several bottles and packs of Aleve, Advil and Motrin into his sleeves and coat pockets at a Smith Street Rite Aid this week, police said.

The 57-year-old thief was heard shaking pill bottles in the aisle of the pharmacy at 182 Smith St. near Warren Street on Jan. 19 at 11:23 a.m.

He was then seen putting the bottles into his pockets and sleeves and attempting to leave the store without paying for the medicine, according to the police report.

About $234 in property was almost stolen from the shop, including two 80-count bottles of Advil, four 20-count packs of Aleve, five packs of Advil worth $52 and four 50-count bottles of Motrin. 

Police also found packs of barber scissors in the waistband of the man's pants, authorities said.

The man was arrested and charged with petit larceny. 

Rite Aid did not immediately return calls for comment. 

Other crime in the 76th Precinct, according to police, include:

► Two Venus Bodysuits and two pairs of Easy Jeans were stolen from American Apparel at 237 Smith St. on Jan. 16 around 4:15 p.m. The total value of the stolen goods was $244. No arrests have been made as yet.
