Woman Fatally Stabs Boyfriend While Their Kids Were in the Apartment: NYPD

By Sybile Penhirin | January 18, 2016 11:16am

STATEN ISLAND — A domestic dispute turned deadly on Saturday when a woman stabbed her longtime boyfriend in their apartment while their children were home, police said.

Christina Quinones, 31, stabbed her boyfriend Ruben Jimenez, 31, repeatedly in the chest while the pair fought inside her apartment on Westwood Avenue at roughly 12:45 a.m. on Saturday, police said.

Police said Quinones and Jimenez had two young boys, ages 10 and 4, who were inside her first-floor apartment when the stabbing happened. It was not immediately clear if the children witnessed the attack.

Quinones' 14-year-old daughter was also home at the time, police said.

Jimenez had several wounds to his chest when the ambulance arrived at Quinones' Westwood Avenue apartment shortly after the incident, an NYPD spokeswoman said.

Jimenez, who lived in downtown Manhattan, was rushed to Staten Island University North Hospital where he was pronounced dead, officials said.

Police said they recovered the knife used in the slaying in the kitchen sink.

Quinones was arraigned on charges of murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon and was ordered held without bail, according to the Staten Island District Attorney's office.

Quinones' defense attorney, Andrea Ibrahim, said in court that her client was trying to defend herself from Jimenez, who had abused her previously and had been hit with several orders of protection, according to the New York Post.

However, sources told the Post that Quinones had confronted Jimenez about an affair with another woman before attacking him.

Quinones' lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for more information.
