All Weekend

Mulch Fest 2016

Where: Carl Schurz Park, Upper East Side
When: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday

Bring your Christmas trees to Carl Schurz park to recycle them into wood chips, which are used to nourish trees and plants citywide or can be taken home as your own bag of mulch. More than 30,000 trees were recycled last year citywide.

Hubble@25 Exhibit

Where: The Intrepid Museum, Pier 86, West 46th Street and 12th Ave., Midtown West
When: Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Friday, January 8

Introduction to Coding: Drop-in Workshops

Where: New-York Historical Society, 170 Central Park West, Upper West Side
When: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

In this free coding workshop, visitors will learn how to use a coding program aimed at beginngers called “Scratch” to make an animated cartoon. They can also visit the computer history exhibit “Silicon City” at the museum.

After Work Salsa party

Where: Bishop Perry Hall at 57 West 138th St., Central Harlem
When: 6:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

A night of dancing with a live DJ. This long-running salsa event is catered "mainly to a mature crowd." Come ready to dance salsa and cha cha.

Movie Night: “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”

Where: Koneko, 26 Clinton St., Lower East Side
When: 8 p.m.

Snuggle up with a new feline friend at one of the city’s cat cafes while watching one of Audrey Hepburn’s best-known films. Tickets available online for $30 and include popcorn and a complimentary beer, tea or coffee.

Trump Dump: President Luxury

Where: UCB Theatre Chelsea, 307 W. 26th St., Chelsea
When: Friday, Jan. 8 at 7:30 p.m.

The Upright Citizen’s Brigade is getting political this Friday, with an improv show envisioning a Trump presidency. Attendees are invited to bring questions for President Trump to field, and will hear his takes on pertinent issues like “the Hunt for Rosie O’Donnell, the construction of the first ever transcontinental hair oil pipeline and his plan for bronzing illegal immigrant’s babies and using them for actual ship anchors.”

►  Storytime for Kids

Where: 2113 Amsterdam Avenue (at the corner of 165th Street), Washington Heights
When: 11 a.m. 

Bring your kids to the year’s first Weekly Story Time at Word Up Books. Your child will not not only hear their favorite stories read out loud by experienced, trained readers, but meet new friends also. Ages 3 and up. 

Story Time: Tales on Sugar Hill

Where: Sugar Hill Children's Museum on 898 St. Nicholas Ave., Sugar Hill
When: 2 p.m. to 4 p.m

The museum's story room will be transformed into a jazz cabaret with stories about the golden age of jazz including what Sugar Hill was like when Duke Ellington lived in the neighborhood.

Movie Matinee: "Rocky"

Where: Mid-Manhattan Library, 455 Fifth Ave. at 40th Street, sixth floor, Midtown
When: 2 p.m.

Catch some New Years inspiration from the king of montages, Rocky Balboa.

Habana Nights at subrosa

Where: subrosa, 63 Gansevoort St., Meatpacking District
When: 11 p.m.

Cuban Rumba DJ David Media spins live timba, salsa and rumba at subrosa every Saturday at 11 p.m. Entrance is free.

Sunday, January 10

► Studio workshop: Textile Design with Ink and Thread

Where: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Fifth Avenue, Upper East Side
When: 1 to 5 p.m.

Learn a range of techniques, from printing to embroidery with the Textile Arts Center. This is one of three sessions this month. Register at studioprograms@metmuseum.org or call 212-570-3961.

► No Pants Official Afterparty

Where: Webster Hall, 125 E 11th Street, Union Square
When: starts 4:15 p.m.

After riding the subway with 4,000 other pants-less New Yorkers, head to Webster Hall for the 5th annual "No Pants Subway Ride" afterparty. Expect a DJ and a decorate-your-own underwear station. There is, of course, a no-pants dress code. Tickets for the 21+ party are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.  

Angel’s Bone

Where: 3-Legged Dog Art & Technology Center, 80 Greenwich St., Financial District
When: 7 p.m.

This modern opera hybrid, featuring electronic, punk and other musical stylings, focuses on the plight of two angels who’ve come back to earth. Tickets are $25.
