Saturday, Jan. 9

► Composting 101 Workshop

Where: Snug Harbor Cultural Center's Winter Garden, 1000 Richmond Terrace, Livingston
When: 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The New York Compost Project will host an introductory workshop on composting at Snug Harbor. The $5 class will give an introduction to composting, how it's made and what to do with it when it's done. Organizers ask people to pre-register on their website for the event.

Art Lab 13th Annual Open Show Reception

Where: Art Lab, 1000 Richmond Terrace, Livingston
When: 2 to 4 p.m.

Art Lab will host an opening reception for their 13th annual Open Show, where any artists can pay $25 to display up to two pieces at the show. The exhibit will run until Feb. 21.

Art Tour: A New Year of Staten Island SEEN

Where: Staten Island Museum, 1000 Richmond Terrace, Livingston
When: 2 to 3 p.m.

The Staten Island Museum will host of tour of their inaugural exhibit, "Staten Island SEEN," which features 400 years of work about Staten Island from artists from the 17th century to present, lead by art curator Robert Bunkin. The tour will be free with museum admission.

"Random" Opening Reception

Where: CPG Gallery, 814 Richmond Terrace, Livingston 
When: 5 to 8 p.m.

The Creative Photographers Guild will debut their first show of the new year, "Random," with an opening reception. For the show, featured artist Richard Xuereb challenged members of the photography group to come up with pieces based on the word "random."

Tavern Concert: Frank Mara

Where: Historic Richmond Town's Guyon Tavern, 441 Clarke Ave., Richmond Town
When: 6 and 8 p.m.

This year's series of concerts inside the Guyon Tavern kicks off with a performance by musician Frank Mara. The concerts features acoustic performances inside the 19th-century building with cider, wine and beer served. Tickets are $11 online, $13 at the door.

Sunday, Jan. 10

Fitness Hike in the Greenbelt

Where: High Rock Park, 200 Nevada Ave., Willowbrook
When: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Urban Park Rangers from the Parks Department will lead a vigorous, free hike through the hills and rugged terrain at the Greenbelt on Sunday.
