VIDEO: See What a Train Operator Sees While Riding the 7 Line

By Sybile Penhirin | January 7, 2016 6:02pm | Updated on January 8, 2016 11:13am

Seven train operators actually enjoy some of the city best views, a new video posted on YouTube Tuesday shows.

The sped up video, which shows the conductor's view throughout the entire 7 line, was shot by Max Diamond, a 19-year-old student at the City College of New York who regularly posts subway videos on his DJ Hammer YouTube account.

Diamond, who describes himself as a "huge transit enthusiast," said he waited about an hour at the recently opened 34th street-Hudson Yards station before he could hop on one of the city's trains that has a large window in the front

"They are only a few types of trains in the city subway system where the operator's cabin only takes up one third of the front of the train, and the rest is a space where passengers can stand and look through a front window,” said Diamond, a native New Yorker who's been passionate about train since he was a kid.

The transit fan said he wanted to capture this view with his GoPro camera before those old cars are taken off the line, which should happen by the end of the year, according to an MTA spokesman.

“I’m very glad I could get this video because this is a sort of dying institution of New York City. I’m glad I persevered this view for future generations to see," Diamond said, adding he hoped the video would make New Yorkers see their commutes in a "different, interesting way."

An MTA spokesman said that some J and C trains also feature front car with a large window but did not immediately answer when asked if those cars would be replaced too.
