Burglars Hit 3 Apartments Off Washington Avenue in 2 Days, Police Say

CROWN HEIGHTS — Police are investigating three burglaries that took place in adjacent Crown Heights apartment buildings within two days this week.

Police said the first break-in happened the night of Jan. 2 or early morning of Jan. 3 at the apartment of a 32-year-old man at 921 Washington Ave. on the corner of Montgomery Street.

He told police he left for work at 8:15 p.m. on Saturday and when he returned at 4 a.m. on Sunday morning, he found his place ransacked and an Apple iPad, Dell laptop, passport and Social Security card missing.

Police said the thief or thieves entered the apartment through a fire escape window.

The second burglary took place the next day, Jan. 4, at 901 Washington Ave. in the apartment of a 63-year-old woman who reported to police that someone had stolen gold jewelry worth $850 while she was at work.

The same day, around the corner at 916 Carroll St. just off Washington Avenue, a 38-year-old woman reported someone broke into her apartment and stole jewelry, a jewelry box and a bottle of cognac.

Police have not identified a suspect but believe the three incidents may be related. Residents are encouraged to lock all windows and doors before leaving their apartments. Any suspicious activity should be reported to police immediately.

The above incidents are part of DNAinfo’s weekly crime blotter made from reports to the 71st Precinct in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens and Crown Heights.
