Here's What's Open on New Year's Day in New York City

► New Year’s Day Service Changes

• On New Year's Day, Friday, Jan. 1, all government offices will be closed. 

• Subways and buses will operate on a Sunday schedule.

• Alternate side parking regulations will be suspended, and drivers will not need to pay parking meters. 

• Drivers will not need to follow no stopping, no standing and no parking regulations except for those that are in effect at any time or seven days a week.

• There will be no garbage, recycling or organics collection on New Year’s Day. If Friday is your usual pick-up day, the Department of Sanitation recommends that you put your items out after 4 p.m. that day.

• There will be no mail delivery.

• All of the City’s public libraries will be closed.
