How to Dispose of Your Christmas Tree in Crown Heights

Don't leave your tree in the middle of the street; bring it in for mulching or put it out for curbside pick-up.

CROWN HEIGHTS — You lugged it home from the tree stand, hauled it up three flights of stairs, decorated it and now, you need a place to trash it.

Christmas tree disposal season is upon us and DNAinfo has you covered. In the Crown Heights area, here are your options for getting rid of your evergreen before its needles drop:

► RECYCLE IT

Starting Sunday, Jan. 2, bring your tree to one of three drop-off locations in the area run by the city Parks Department to collect Christmas trees to be turned into mulch to be used in public and private gardens all around the city. Here are the drop-off points near you:

• Brower Park, Brooklyn Avenue at Prospect Place, Crown Heights

• Prospect Heights Community Farm, 254 St. Marks Ave. (near Vanderbilt), Prospect Heights

• Lincoln Terrace Park, Buffalo Avenue at East New York Avenue, Crown Heights

► CHIP IT

On Jan. 9 and 10, watch your tree get turned into wood chips yourself (and bring home a bag of mulch) at two locations on the west side of Prospect Park (sorry, there are no east side chipping spots):

• Third Street and Prospect Park West, Park Slope

• Park Circle at Parkside Avenue, Windsor Terrace

► CURB IT

• The Department of Sanitation will do special Christmas tree pick-ups curbside citywide starting Jan. 4 through Jan. 15.

All trees disposed through the city’s mulching program or by curbside pick-up must be completely stripped of lights, decorations and tree stands. For more information about Christmas tree removal, visit the DSNY or Parks websites.
