All Week Long (Dec. 26 - Jan. 1)

Ice Skating in Prospect Park

Where: LeFrak Center at Lakeside, Prospect Park
When: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. most days, but check website for details

Give the family a taste of winter with a visit to Prospect Park's skating rink. While you're there, look out for the beautiful painted bunting, the rare bird that's been nesting near Lakeside this winter.

Nature Exploration in Prospect Park

Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
When: 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., but check website for details

This free program teaches kids about how animals survive in Prospect Park for the winter, and gives them an introduction to bird watching.

Saturday Dec. 26 - Wednesday, Dec. 30

Puppet Show: Nutcracker Sweets and Steadfast Tin Soldier

Where: Puppet Works, 338 Sixth Ave., Park Slope
When:  Shows at 12:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m.

Park Slope institution Puppet Works presents two holiday treats with marionettes: Nutcracker Sweets (based on the famed ballet) and Steadfast Tin Soldier (a Hans Christian Andersen tale). Tickets are $9 for kids and $10 for adults.

Sunday, Dec. 27

Rock and Roll For Kids

Where: Brooklyn Bowl, 61 Wythe Ave., Williamsburg
When: 11 a.m.

Tickets are $10 to this "rock and roll workshop" for kids ages 7 and under. The workshop is "designed to keep children moving, playing and singing while simultaneously teaching developmental milestones and listening to classic tunes."

Monday, Dec. 28

Free Screening of "Polar Express"

Where: Park Slope Public Library, 431 Sixth Ave.
When:  2:30 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.

See the holiday classic "Polar Express," based on the children's book by Chris Van Allsburg.

Monday Dec. 28- Wednesday Dec. 30

Build Robots in Gowanus

Where: Brooklyn Robot Foundry, 303 Third Ave., Gowanus
When: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Kids get to learn basic engineering skills and walk away from each session with devices they've built themselves. On Dec. 30, participants will make a robot that throws confetti. The cost is $125 per day.
