LOWER MANHATTAN — Making your way as an artist or writer in Manhattan is no easy feat — but the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council wants to help.

The LMCC's nine-month “workspace” residency program, which offers free studio space and a mentorship in Lower Manhattan, is now accepting applications.

Chosen artists and writers will be given their own private or semi-private space Downtown, that comes complete with Wi-Fi, and around-the-clock access.

Those selected will also be immersed in a professional and creative development program that includes studio visits, talks and seminars, networking with fellow artists, and a variety of public programs.

Artists will also have the chance to present their work to the public during a few open studio sessions.

About 15 to 20 visual artists and six to eight writers are selected for each Workspace session, which lasts from September 2016 to May 2017.

Workspace receives almost 1,000 applications every year, organizers said.

Applicants have until Jan. 28, 2016 at 5 p.m. to apply.

For more information, and to apply, visit the LMCC’s website.
