LOWER MANHATTAN — Get a free, behind-the-scenes look at the artistic process this weekend, as more than 20 painters, sculptors, choreographers and playwrights open their workspaces for the Lower Manhattan Culture Council’s Open Studios event.

The event, which starts Friday, includes tours of studios, talks with the artists and performances across Lower Manhattan. Sites include Governors Island, Battery Park, the LMCC headquarters at 125 Maiden Lane, and the Lower East Side’s Pier 42.

The annual event is sponsored by the nonprofit arts organization LMCC, which offers young artists and writers a residency program that gives them workspace and mentorship in Lower Manhattan to develop their craft.

Those artists have the chance to present the fruits of their labor to the public during the open studios weekend.

Activities this weekend will include dance rehearsals, workshops with visual artists and designers, guided tours of studios and installations as well as exhibitions of photography, sculpture and video.

For a full lineup of the weekend’s schedule, head to the LMCC website.
