The most important meal of the day might also be the most interesting for some diners this weekend.

Cereals mixed with bacon-infused soy milk and green tea powder, served alongside sides like tofu and beef jerky fried rice, are on the menu at Mission Chinese Food, which will begin serving the special breakfast menu Friday, said co-founder and chef Danny Bowien.

Throughout the weekend, diners can nosh on five different cereals, like Raisin Bran braised in almond milk, agave and lime or Frosted Mini Wheats dressed up with cashew butter, persimmon jam and peanut milk.

“When you eat it, it makes total sense,” Bowien said, explaining that the dishes incorporate various elements of traditional breakfasts, like egg, bacon and tea. “It’s the same context but totally reimagined.”

The unexpected breakfast dishes are part of a collaboration between the restaurant and Kellogg’s, which has been encouraging consumers to experiment with its morning cereal through its #StirUpBreakfast campaign featuring celebrity chefs like Bowien and Christina Tosi, the owner of Milk Bar.

Proceeds from the $6 cereals, which each come with a side, benefit the Bowery Mission, Bowien said. The menu also includes coffee, tea, juice and cocktails.

Mission Chinese’s special breakfast menu will be served between 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Dec. 18 through 20. Seating is on a first come, first serve basis.
