"Star Wars" and the Power Of Costume
Where? Discovery Times Square, 226 W. 44th St., Midtown
When? Saturday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
How Much? Adults $27.50, Kids 3-11 years $20
Featuring 70 hand-crafted costumes from the first six blockbuster "Star Wars" films (and seven costumes from the just-opened "Star Wars: The Force Awakens"), this exhibition reveals the artists’ creative process — and uncovers the connection between character and costume.

Scandinavian Sing-Along
Where? Scandinavia House, 58 Park Ave., Midtown
When? From 1 p.m.
How Much? $7. Tickets available online
Scandinavian culture offers a treasure trove of children's songs and games. Danish musician Vibe Normann introduces children to English versions of these songs, plays musical games, and performs a selection of songs in lively, modern arrangements. Come prepared to dance and sing. Intended for kids 1 to 7-years-old.

"The Hard Nut"

Mark Morris Dance Group’s beloved retro-modern reimagining of "The Nutcracker" — based on E.T.A. Hoffmann’s original story and the comic book art of Charles Burns — comes home to BAM for the holidays.

When? The live performance schedule for the Ice Carvers and Ice Castles windows is M­onday to Wednesday 12 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Thursday to Saturday 12 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Sun 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Barney’s holiday display this year features an ice locker with ice carvings. It also includes updates to the classic penguin chase with accurately scaled Lexus model cars and 3-D mapping for the winter brilliance sculpture. 

The Butterfly Conservatory: Tropical Butterflies Alive in Winter
Where? American Museum of Natural History, Central Park West at 79th Street, Upper West Side.

Celebrating its 18th year at the Museum, this popular attraction transforms winter into a tropical summer escape. Mingle with up to 500 fluttering, iridescent butterflies among blooming tropical flowers and lush green vegetation in 80-degree temperatures.
