CROWN HEIGHTS — A resident of the Ebbets Field apartments handed in two revolvers and four packs of bullets to the local precinct stationhouse this week after he said he found them at the bottom of a garbage chute, police said.

The 67-year-old man said he found the weapons in a metal box around 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 12 after someone threw the package down one of the refuse chutes at the complex at 1700 Bedford Ave.

The box — that popped opened as it hit the ground, the man said — contained a .32 Smith and Wesson revolver, a .38 special revolver and ammunition of various calibers.

The resident immediately turned the weapons in to his local precinct stationhouse, police said.

The Ebbets Field apartments are a frequent source of gun-related crime for local investigators, most recently when Cuomo staffer Carey Gabay was injured in a gang-related shoot-out at the complex and ultimately died.

Last year, the commanding officer of the local precinct attributed a spike in shootings in the area to gang activity between crews from Ebbets Field and Hawthorne Street.

The above incident is part of DNAinfo’s weekly crime blotter made from reports to the 71st Precinct in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens and Crown Heights.
