72-Year-Old Man Fatally Struck by SUV on Staten Island, Police Say

GREAT KILLS — A 72-year-old man was struck and killed by the driver of an SUV Tuesday morning, the NYPD said.

Thomas Violante, of Great Kills, was crossing Hylan Boulevard, at the intersection of Buffalo Street, at 9:28 a.m. when a 75-year-old behind the wheel of a 2011 Ford Explorer driving northbound on Buffalo Street struck him, police said.

Violante was taken to Staten Island University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the NYPD said.

The driver remained on scene and has not been charged, police said.
