CROWN HEIGHTS — A new gourmet grocery and prepared foods store is coming to Crown Heights next summer, its owners said, moving into a 2,700-square-foot space at the corner of Atlantic and Nostrand avenues currently occupied by a 99-cent store.

The new shop will be the second location for Wholesome Gourmet Market, which has operated a grocery on Lincoln Road and Flatbush Avenue in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens since 2013.

The store signed a 10-year lease at 1306 Atlantic Ave. on the corner of Nostrand Avenue for $65 a square foot, according to Wholesome’s brokerage firm Eastern Consolidated. After a renovation, the new grocery will open sometime in the summer of 2016, the firm and a representative from the Lincoln Road store told DNAinfo New York.

At its current location, the Wholesome market sells fresh produce, gourmet groceries and prepared foods like paninis, salads, wraps and juices. The grocery will join two other food stores already operating on Nostrand Avenue in Crown Heights, including a Key Food between St. Marks Avenue and Prospect Place and a Met Food between Sterling and St. Johns places.

Eastern Consolidated broker Joe Robinson said that his firm had “high demand” for the Atlantic Avenue space and achieved “benchmark pricing” with the Wholesome deal, a “testament to the transformation taking place in Crown Heights where new residential projects are being developed and hip restaurants are opening,” he said in a statement.

The four-story building where Wholesome will be located was purchased in October of 2007 by its current owner, Nostrand Atlantic Holdings LLC, for $1,575,000, deeds show. The new grocery store will replace Mega 99, a discount store for household goods located on the ground floor.

The grocery isn't the only new food-related business coming to the block; last week, DNAinfo reported that a "steampunk" cocktail and dessert bar will open across the street this winter, taking the former NoBar storefront at 604 Nostrand Ave.
