Monday, Dec. 14

Free Total Body Workout Class

Where: Restoration Plaza, 1368 Fulton St., Bed-Stuy
When: 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Get your fitness on for free at this Total Body Conditioning class. Work on toning your muscles and increasing cardiovascular strength to house tunes, Soca, reggae, and more with trainer Nakisha Ross. Participants must register online.

An Evening with Broadway Singer Javier Ignacio: Standards & Holiday Selections

Where: Queens Library, Central Branch, 89-11 Merrick Blvd., Jamaica
When: 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Enjoy this evening of holiday music with actor and singer Javier Ignacio — most recently seen in Bill Condon’s revival of "Side Show" on Broadway — who will perform with pianist and composer Charles Duke. The concert will blend the sounds of Broadway and American Standards. This event requires free tickets which can be obtained here.

Soul Glo Variety Show

Where: Silvana, 300 W. 116th St., West Harlem
When: Doors open at 7 p.m.; show starts at 7:30 p.m.

Check out this free variety show that features local performers doing improv, stand-up and music along with the screening of a web series. High school students, amateurs, and professionals (like "Saturday Night Live" writers) have graced the stage in past shows.

Tuesday, Dec. 15

Winter Wonderland Crafts

Where: Whole Foods at E. 87th St. and Third Ave., Upper East Side
When: 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Join the Craft Studio for an hour of holiday craft making at Whole Foods. Sign up online. Tickets are $25. 

Brooklyn Tech & Media Ultra Holiday Bash

Where: Made in NY Media Center by IFP, 30 John St., DUMBO
When: 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Mingle with tech and media entrepreneurs over drinks, food, music and games. Leaders from the Made in NY Media Center, Brooklyn Entrepreneurs, Brooklyn Tech Meetup, TriNet, DUMBO Startup Lab, RokoLabs and Downtown Brooklyn will be there, along with presenting sponsor Etsy. Get there early for a free drink. The open bar closes at 9. This event is free and open to the public.

Frank Sinatra Film Retrospective

Where: Tribeca Performing Arts Center, 199 Chambers St., Tribeca 
When: 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

To celebrate legendary crooner Frank Sinatra’s 100th birthday this month, the center is offering a free film retrospective — a variety of clips of some of his most memorable film work — along with a Q&A about the artist’s performances.

Where: Bushwick Crossfit, 10 Wilson Ave., border of Bushwick and Williamsburg
When: 8:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Wednesday, Dec. 16

► Learn to Shuck Oysters From a World Record Holder

Where: Broadway Panhandler, 65 E. 8th St., Greenwich Village
When: 5 p.m.

The man who holds the Guinness World Record for the most oysters shucked in one minute (38!) is going to be at Broadway Panhandler on Wednesday to teach his oyster-shucking technique using a special oyster knife he designed. Patrick McMurray has held the Guinness World Record for years — he most recently beat his own previous record (33) in 2010. He has also won the World Oyster Opening Championship twice and the Canadian Championship four times. These are all real things that exist! The event is free and Broadway Panhandler will provide (a limited amount of) free oysters.

Former “Colbert Report” Resident Chaplain Book Signing

Where: Wallace Hall at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola, 980 Park Ave., Upper East Side
When: 7:30 p.m.

Father James Martin, a New York Times bestselling author and former “Colbert Report” resident chaplain will read excerpts and sign copies of his book,The Abbey, which is about three lives that intersect at a monastery.  

Thursday, Dec. 17

► 71st Precinct Kids’ Holiday Party

Where: 400 Empire Blvd., Crown Heights
When: 5 p.m.

Bring the kids to see Santa and get a free gift for children 12-years-old and under at this year’s 71st Precinct holiday party, hosted by the 71st Precinct Community Council. The event is free and open to the public; gifts will be given to the first 150 children who attend.

► Disguising Brooklyn: Film and TV’s Favorite Location

Where: Brooklyn Historical Society, 128 Pierrepont St., Brooklyn Heights
When: 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Brooklyn residents, particularly those living in Brooklyn Heights, will be familiar with the borough's popularity among film and television crews. But in many cases, Brooklyn is used to represent other places on screen. WNYC's Jim O'Grady will talk to location scouts about how local neighborhoods are disguised to look like some place else. Tickets are priced at $5 for non-members. 

2nd Annual Rockaway Pint Party    

Where: Rockaway Brewing Company, 46-01 5th St., Long Island City
When: 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The Long Island City brewery’s “pint party” celebrates the anniversary of the passing of the Craft New York Act, which allowed breweries to legally serve beer and pints without having to obtain a tavern license first. The free celebration will include bites from the popular Tacoway Beach, a DJ and the debut of a new stout.
