Where to Hear Holiday Carols in the City

To get you into the spirit of the season, here are some great holiday caroling events and concerts around the city to sing along with.

Washington Square Tree Lighting & Christmas Eve Carols

When: Wednesday, Dec. 9, 6 p.m. and Thursday, Dec. 24, 5 p.m.
Where: Washington Square Park, Greenwich Village 

Children and adults alike are welcome to gather under the arch to watch the multi-colored lights of the tree turn on while singing holiday songs with the Rob Sussman Brass Quartet. If you’re into a more traditional caroling experience or can’t make that time, come to the arch on Christmas Eve to carol with the Sussman quartet. Complimentary songbooks are provided by the Washington Square Association.

The Christmas Show at St. George Theatre 

When: Friday, Dec. 11, 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 12 and Dec. 13, 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Where: St. George Theatre, 35 Hyatt St., St. George

Enjoy a two-hour, song-and-dance Christmas extravaganza at the St. George Theatre, featuring popular sing-alongs like “Let It Snow” and spirituals like “Go Tell It on the Mountain.” The show features scenes from vastly different places, from Times Square to the North Pole. Tickets are $15, $25, and $45.

The Christmas Story at the Cloisters 

When: Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 12 and 13, 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Where: The Cloisters, 99 Margaret Corbin Drive, Washington Heights

The Cloisters is a branch of the Met Museum specializing in medieval arts that's tucked away in the northern tip of Manhattan. This winter, as with every past winter since 1980, the 13-member Waverly Consort will perform The Christmas Story with “vocal and instrumental hymns, processionals, antiphons, and Mass compositions from the tenth to the fifteenth century arranged as a narrative.” Tickets are $45.

Jolly Holidays in The Bronx’s Little Italy

When: Dec. 11 to 13, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Dec. 18 to Dec. 20 and Dec. 23 and Dec. 24, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Where: Bronx Little Italy, 2396 Arthur Ave., Belmont

The Jolly Holidays, a caroling company based in New York, will be wandering around Little Italy for several days singing traditional holiday tunes and spreading the festive spirit. They will be making stops at local businesses and Ciccarone Park.

Holiday Harmonies with Brooklyn Youth Chorus

When: Sunday, Dec. 13, 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Where: Hanson Place Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 88 Hanson Place, Fort Greene

Listen to the heralded Brooklyn Youth Chorus as they raise their 500 voices to sing “holiday favorites, choral classics and contemporary music gems.” Tickets start at $25.

Parranda Navideña: A Lehman Center Holiday Tradition

When: Sunday, Dec. 13, 4:30 p.m.
Where: Concert Hall at Lehman Center for the Performing Arts, 250 Bedford Park Blvd. West, Bedford Park

Take part in a Puerto Rican-style Christmas celebration featuring composer and performer José Nogueras and esteemed musical group El Trio Borinquen. Enjoy listening to classic songs like “Dame Las Mano Paloma” and “No Quieren Parar.” Tickets are $25, $45, and $50. 

Bronx Concert Singers’ 34th Annual Holiday Concert

When: Sunday, Dec. 13, 4:30 p.m.
Where: St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1891 McGraw Ave., Parkchester

Listen to the jubilant BCS chorus as they sing classical music featuring Vivaldi’s Magnificent as well as holiday carols. General admission tickets are $20.

A Christmas To Remember

When: Dec. 13 (3 p.m. & 6 p.m.), Dec. 15 (7:30 p.m.), Dec. 18 (7:30 p.m.), Dec. 20 (3 p.m. & 6 p.m.), Dec. 22 (7:30 p.m.)
Where: The Brooklyn Tabernacle, 17 Smith St., Downtown Brooklyn

Join the nondenominational, multi-cultural congregation at Brooklyn Tabernacle for a holiday musical celebration for the whole family.

St. Bart’s Midtown Carol Sing-Along

When: Monday, Dec. 14, 5:45 p.m.
Where: Front steps of St. Bart’s, 325 Park Ave., Midtown

Join the holiday caroling on the front steps of St. Bart’s during their annual midtown sing-along and enjoy hot chocolate, cider, and cookies in the church afterwards.

7th Annual Jackson Heights Winter Holiday Sing-Along

When: Saturday, Dec. 19, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Where: Cassidy’s Ale House, 7502 31st Ave., Jackson Heights

Residents gather in front of Cassidy’s Ale House and walk through the local Jackson Heights area singing winter and holiday songs from all faiths, cultures, and languages.

Celebrate the Holidays with the Queens Symphony

When: Sunday, Dec. 20, 3 p.m.
Where: Flushing Town Hall, 137-35 Northern Blvd., Flushing

The Queens Symphony Orchestra has assembled an “intimate group” to perform favorite holiday tunes for all to enjoy. Suggested $5 donation.

Christmas Eve Caroling in Gramercy Park

When: Thursday, Dec. 24th, 6 p.m.
Where: Gramercy Park, Gramercy

While rarely publicized, the famously guarded park opens its doors to the public once a year for caroling on Christmas Eve. Take this rare opportunity to set foot in and explore the hidden park.
