PROSPECT-LEFFERTS GARDENS — Police arrested a man this week for a string of recent fire escape burglaries after investigators said he was caught red-handed stealing from an apartment on Linden Boulevard.
Ricardo Gordon, 50, has been charged with a total of 26 burglaries in Brooklyn, many of them in apartment buildings in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens and Flatbush, according to police and prosecutors.
In October and November, Gordon struck nine different buildings on Parkside Avenue, Ocean Avenue, Lenox Road, Hawthorne Street and Ocean Parkway, using fire escapes to enter apartment windows, then fleeing with cash, jewelry and electronics, police said.
Gordon struck one building, 150 Hawthorne St., three times, first on Halloween night, then again on Nov. 2 and Nov. 22, court records show.
The burglary streak ended on Nov. 29 when Gordon was caught by a resident of 201 Linden Blvd. in the lobby of the building, carrying a pillowcase filled with two stolen laptops, a cellphone, chargers, a watch and $414 in cash. The resident who stopped Gordon told police she had spotted Gordon on a fire escape outside her apartment the day before, on. Nov. 28, according to court documents.
In addition to the string of local robberies, prosecutors have also charged Gordon with residential burglaries in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Crown Heights and Flatlands.
Gordon was set to be arraigned on the burglary charges Thursday. He has not yet been assigned an attorney, court records show.
