MANHATTAN — A woman was seriously injured when a private sanitation truck struck her Wednesday morning in Midtown East, police said.
The woman, who may be homeless and in her 70s, was struck near Third Avenue and East 58th Street about 5:38 a.m., an NYPD spokesman said.
The truck's driver didn't realize what had happened and continued moving until someone alerted him, police said. At that point, he returned to the site of the collision.
The woman was taken to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where she's listed in serious condition, police said.
The driver was not immediately ticketed or charged. The police investigation is ongoing.
